Seniors Update - Feb 2024

After the 2022 season issues we set ourselves a difficult goal of rebuilding the seniors club in 2023.

2023 started slowly , focusing on one team, expanding the committee with committed people and focusing on the club culture to bring players back to what is and always has been a friendly , family and fun oriented club with strong roots in our local communities. During the season we found our player numbers growing steadily and before semi finals we had an enviable problem of having to many players for one squad on game day.

During the off season Will’s ground underwent several significant infrastructure upgrades including a new playing surface , seating , refit and upgrade to our club house as well as preparations for new lighting to be installed in April this year.

The plans for our 2024 season are:

Field 2 Teams playing 1st and 2nd grade making finals for at least one of the teams

Continue growing numbers throughout the season – ideally at 40

Play double headers nights with the Canterbury under 18s or other teams post lighting upgrade

Host finals again with improved infrastructure at Wills Ground

Start building for a woman's team for next year

Work with local schools to use Will’s as an option for schools (not just private) to add rugby to sports options

Make better use of new club house fit out during game days with addition of kids jumping castle for locals and players

Kick off golden oldies canterbury team and hold events at Will’s

Potentially have subbies 7 comp at Will’s Group if interest is there from Subbies

Keep building our culture around inclusivity , family , fun results and responsibility
